Classroom Location

All classes require a basic sewing kit:  sewing machine, scissors, rotary cutter and mat, pins, seam ripper, and ruler.   It is also handy to have a few extra wound bobbins along.  Extension cords will be available.  I also provide one iron, so you are welcome to bring your own.  
If fewer than 3 people sign up for the afternoon class, they will be added to the evening class.  Cancellations must be made 24 hours before class.  If not enough people sign up for any one class, it will be canceled. Any class fees will be refunded.

We are introducing something NEW at What a Hoot!

For a $30.00 enrollment fee, you will receive a $10.00 gift certificate towards a class of your choice and other “University exclusive” gifts. You will have the opportunity to earn Associate, Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate degrees by attending classes and clubs. You will earn one credit for every class taken, and 3 credits for any club that you participate in. Special awards will be given with each degree attained! 

You will receive advance notice of any new products and/or classes. There will be some “University exclusive” events. You will also have the opportunity to purchase some “University exclusive” items.

Sit & Sew

Date: First Friday of every month
Time: 9:00am to 9:00pm or until the last person leaves
Cost: $5.00

Lunch is on your own. We have several eating establishments close by or you are welcome to bring your own lunch. You bring your own project to work on, whether it be handwork or machine piecing. Space is limited, so email Nita to let her know you're coming.

Beginners 101

Date: August 14 and August 20

Time: 1:00pm to approximately 4:00pm

Cost: $65.00 (includes pattern)


This two-session class will cover the basics of quilting. You will create a table runner in this class. A supply list and fabric requirements will be given when you sign up for the class.




Mini Barn Quilts

Dates: September 27, October 18, November 15, and December 4

Time: 1:00pm or 5:00pm

Cost: $25.00 (which covers the pattern and 2 sessions)


This Mini-Barn Block Quilt series is by This and That. Each pattern gives you the blocks for two months. The blocks measure approx. 13 ½” square. You can make them for individual hanging or make them into a quilt. Your $25.00 will cover the pattern and two months of classes. We will be making the block at class each month.



Quarter Scramble

Date: October 23

Time: 1:00pm or 5:00pm

Class Cost: $20

Pattern Cost: $9.00

Ruler Cost: $8.50


This quilt is featured in three different sizes using either 16, 24, or 36 Fat Quarters, with the binding included in the Fat Quarter count. You will need an EZ angle ruler for this class. You will be introduced to a new way of making your half-square triangles! Fast and easy!



Double Dresden Christmas Runner

Date: November 3

Time: 12:00pm to 3:00pm

Cost: $20.00

Book and ruler needed


This class takes the traditional Dresden block and simplifies it. By making the Dresden wider, it requires fewer pieces to form your circle.  The Dresden can be either hand appliqued and sewn on the background by machine!  It’s a fun, easy project that will brighten up your holiday table!



Glad Tidings

Date: November 19

Time: 1:00pm or 5:00pm

Cost: $20.00 plus pattern and fabric


We will be constructing the “Joy” version of this pattern. There is some applique that may be done by hand or by machine.  Finished size is 13” X 23”. It would make a great table runner or a wall hanging for your festive holiday decorating!




Civil War Club

Date: Second Thursday of the month September 2018 through February 2019
Time: 1:00pm or 5:00pm
Cost: $65.000-includes the book.

We will be using Civil War Legacies IV by Carol Hopkins this year. We feature one project each month along with a little snippet of Civil War history at each session. This is a lecture class with helpful tips to create the selected project.

Ryokan Club

Date: First Thursday of the month September 2018 to February 2019

Time: 1:00pm or 5:00pm

Cost: $65.00 (includes pattern)


“Ryokan” is translated Japanese Inn.  This 62" X 75” quilt has 12 blocks all featuring a different quilt block.  We will be making two blocks a month for six months.  You will be using your own fabric to create this magnificent quilt! This is a lecture class with helpful tips for constructing the blocks of the month.
